Trip to Cape Coast in Ghana

Here we are at Kakum National Park. It is the only year round tour over a hanging bridge in the forest canopy level in all of Africa. Besides Kakum there are only 4 other round tours of this type. At over 40 meters in Height the canopy walkway passes over 7 bridges and runs over a length of 330 meters. Yes everyone I did it.

Hailey and Hannah our brave girls

We did it both girls nervous but glad they did all 7 bridges

Hannah very happy to see the end of the last bridge

Here we are at one of the platforms between bridges

I made it and did not cry for how high up I was. Maybe all these boys behind me had something to do with it. Cannot let them see a grown woman cry. So I just smiled big instead.

Anybody up for the #3 Pizza?

Here we are at Elmina Salve castle. This Castle was first established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. The slaves were held capture in the castle before exiting through the  castles infamous "Door of No Return" to be transported and resold in newly colonized Brazil and other Portuguese colonies. Approx 7 million slaves went through this castle.

This was the Biggest female Salve Dungeon, up to 300 females in here at one time. No bathrooms and that door at the far end of the room was the ventilation.

When it was time to be shipped out they would push the girls down this door

They were pushed down here and then made there way onto the boats

This was the Dungeon were the freedom fighters were put. The Africans who tried to fight for there rights were put into this room, they only way you came out was when you died. There were usually 30 men in this very small room at a time.
This photo was taken looking out of the "Door of No Return" which is a fishing village. the salves would take a small boat over to the bigger boats

This was the "Door of No Return"  The width of this door was so small our girls could barley fit through. That is how starved and skinny the slaves were when they left. It is a very emotional place in the castle for a lot of people. Hailey even had a tough time being down there.
